Fuel filter for Fairline Holiday

Post by Floatingboater » Mon Jun 13, 2016 10:35 am

my 1979 Holiday has just failed the Boat Safety Scheme Certificate (UK) because the Fuel filter has a glass bowl, which I assume is designed to easily see if there is dirt or water in the petrol supply. I'm told I need an all metal filter now after 36 years of safe cruising, unbelievable!

Anyway does anybody know if there is a replacement for the AC filter without having to rearrange the pipework?

you will get a metal bowl from ASAP Supplies, but don't forget that you will also need a metal bung.
A plastic screw bung will get you a BSS fail.

There is a Racor fuel filter with sea thru bowl which does comply with BSS, it has a large pudding bowl shield and gives that visibility which is, as you suggest, very helpful.

Racor provide different filters 10 and 30 micron (and others possibly) but the unit is quite expensive.
It is a magnificent filter for changing the element which can be done in about 30 seconds.

The model is Racor MA500.
