Control Lever

Postby grahamroy » Fri May 04, 2018 8:18 am

Hi Has anyone any idea re my question as I am new to boating

I have a Holiday MK 3 and the control lever is very smooth without the drive being engaged.

When I select Forward or Reverse it becomes very tight and feels as though there is something blocking a smooth operation although it does work. Is this normal?

Hope that makes sense

Hello, try disconnecting the cables at the gearbox end then see if controls free up, if they don't then take them off from the control end, if its still stiff then the problem is in the controls themself. If the controls are free when you take them off at the gearbox end then the problem is with the gearbox selectors.
Sorry for late reply, work got in the way.
Cheers hth.

Hi Graham, the lever(s) are stiffer in normal operation because you are operating the gear linkage but should not be excessively stiff, so expect some more resistance when engaging drive.
cheers.

It can be the case that, on certain rivers, you can experience an accumulation of limescale around the exposed underwater cable end which will have an effect on smooth operation - but usually this will clear after several movements.
If you satisfy yourself that the control lever is fine, and well lubricated I would look no further - cables are not very expensive, I would go straight to replacement cable.
