Advice on how to trade up/down to Targa 34/37/40?

Post by JohnGibson » Tue Mar 16, 2004 8:31 am

I am a new member to this forum. Just found it via Google!
I am looking to change my Chaparral 280 Sportscruiser (fully loaded, heating,A/C,genny,KAD32s,TV etc. BTW) for a Fairline Targa 34/37/40 or similar.
Any advice on how to approach this would be most welcome.
I only just avoided the Offshore@Pwllhelli disaster and am very apprehensive as to how to effect the change, given I am risking a pretty good boat that I already have owned from new.
Regards .. John.

Hi John,

Guess you've got a number of options;

1) Sell privately (great if you can do it)
2) Sell via a broker (expect 6 to 8% commission + VAT)
3) Part-ex or trade sale to someone like Essex boatyards. Trade prices seem to be around 75% of retail. Seems like a big hit but when you compare it to a brokerage sale where you'll be knocked down by the customary 10% then take off another 10% commission the difference is no longer that great.

Hope this helps and please post a wanted ad on the appropriate sectiob of the forum.
