Boat vat status and Channel Islands

Postby Mark Hammond » Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:22 pm

Hi All,
I’ve discovered that if I keep my EU VAT paid boat in Jersey for longer than 3 years then it loses its VAT paid status.
Does anyone know how long I need to bring my boat back to UK for in order to reset the three year countdown again?
Appreciate the advice.

Hi Mark
I believe it has to leave Jersey for one day and make sure you buy some fuel and take a photo of the sat screen in another port other than the Channel Islands, I don’t think you have to take it to the UK, France will do.
If this not correct then I apologise in advance.

Thanks for that. RYA also said if I sell her in future to bring her back to UK before transferring ownership as that would negate vat paid status.Worth remembering. I’ll be back and forth so as you say I will record movements and keep proof. Thanks again.
