I have an issue with my auto pilot and it appears to be the electronic compass that is the potencial cause
Can any one advise where this is located on the yacht

Hi Settingsons -

I also have found an issue with my autopilot and after an uncomfortable search in the engine room, I found that the plug connecting the controller and the autopilot is weak. The controller is located in the starboard side behind the fuel tank. (mine is a targa 38 from 2010, so it will probably not be located the exact same location)

What brand is your Autopilot?

I also have a problem with the autopilot (targa 38/2011). The telephone support from Garmin told me to make a software update (you can lode the update on the Garmin website) and calibrate the system new afterwords. They told me this should be the first step if there is an issue with the system.
many greetings

Hi Settingson,

Normally the fluxgate ( gyro compass ) is situated somewhere under the floor near a bed or hatch in the floor so you can take it out for repair. I know from the time the midcabin was not yet standard it was mostly in the starboard guestcabin mounted on the engineroom bulkhead. But as the 48 has a midcabin I should look somewhere in the corridor or in the midcabin under the floor.
The fluxgate is black, round cilindrical and about 3 inch height , halfway is red round ring visible and on top is written RayMarine. There is one black cable coming from it that is going straight to the coursecomputer wich is mounted behind the first wooden panel behind the lower helm.

Hope this helps.
