Stern drive on Fairline Targa 34

Post by Consort » Sat Jan 13, 2018 3:51 pm

The Starboard side stern drive can be put into beach without pressing the red button on the top of my Volvo Penta switch. My port side when raised stops at beach and to raise to full tilt the red button has to be pushed and you can hear a relay operating.

I suspect that its the switch or relay, but without knowing where it is, (The wire disappears behind the helm) I thought it easier to ask someone that may have had this problem before.
I have swopped the wires over to each controller but then one will work and the other will not.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Consort

I have just purchased a Targa 34 and will be taking delivery in Feb, it would be great to have someone to share experiences with as the boat requires a fair bit of work:

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

Hi Mark

Great choice of boat!

Mine is a 2004 model with kad300 engines.

What is the spec of yours?

I think we have to use a discussion section for future posts. (Not sure though)

Cheers Paul

Paul, When you swap the wires, does the problem swap to the other drive?

I've got a Targa 34 too. Great boats!

No if the wires are crossed nothing changes.
The port side is fine and I can hear a relay operating when the red button is pressed. The starboard side that isn’t correct has no relay noise when the button is pressed. I’ll have to hunt for the relay behind the helm somewhere I think.
