Fitting advice - cable through transom for fishfinder

Post by ~Ray~ » Sun Jul 08, 2012 3:47 pm

Hi
I'm fitting a fishfinder between the drives on the transom of our Targa 31.
I need to drill a hole in the transom for the cable. I'll do this as high up as possible but none the less the site of hole will at be approx waterline level.
Should I seal the cable in the hole with Epoxy. fibre glass or silicone?

All thoughts welcome.
Regards
Ray

Transom hole

Hi, what I did was to put in a skin fitting in the transom with a length of pipe on the inside leading as high as possible above the waterline, feed the cable through and seal the end with silicon. This way you can always change the cable. Hope this helps, Peter

Hi.
Yes great help.
I had not thought of this solution.
Do you remember approx. how thick the transom is?

I recommend Sikaflex®-291 or 292, it's the best stuff to use for when going through the hull under or near the waterline.
