Duoprops, basic gearing?

Postby kelvin » Thu Apr 26, 2012 11:02 am

Hi, i have a targa 33 with twin chevy v8 350 petrol engines.she comes out of the hole like a bullet and tops 30mph. sounds good untill i try to throttle back to cruise (20mph) but cant stay on the plane with less than 3800rpm . Dont know if this is normal but a friend with same engines cruises at 2800rpm. I am thinking of changing the props (duoprops) from B4s to A5s , research says with the As they give more pulling power out of the hole and reach top speed with lower rpm. does this sound a practical sollution as some conflicting info on prop sites.

I have just jumped through this hoop and bought some A6 props but not yet fitted them.
If they do not do what I want they will be taken off and be advertised for sale. It's an expensive experiment. I finally decided to take the chance after a long discussion with my local Volvo agent. (Marine Engineering Looe) http://www.marine-engineering-looe.co.uk/pages/survey
Ask for Jamie Newton (MD)
Jamie, as have all offical distributors, has access to a dealer only prop calculator.
If you tell him what you have or want he can tell you what "Mr Volvo" believes will be right for you.

Give jamie a ring It's worth a phone call just to hear what he says.
