Gearbox ratio and prop sizes

Postby Bolero » Sat May 20, 2017 12:27 pm

Hi,
Having purchased a Fairline Corniche 31 (Bolero III) late last year, I have spent the winter getting her ready for the season. She was in a pretty un-loved state and its an ongoing project to bring her back to a reliable life and originality.
I do have a question, if anyone out there is knowledgeable enough on these boats.....
She is a 1991 with 2 x TAMD41B and just over 1000 hours. has the standard Gearboxes, with what I calculate to be 2.6:1 ratio. I had the props refurbished and pitched for this gearbox by Hamble Propellers, who took the specification from Fairline standards.
Upon sea trial I was achieving about 22 knots flat out and the both engines were on 4000 rpm dead (so higher than the rated 3800 rpm).
Should I be getting more speed than this from the boat?
Fuel was nearly full as well as the fresh water. Totally clean hull as she's been shot blasted, dried out and epoxy'd.
Any advise on this particular boat and engine set up would be appreciated.
Thanks.
