Fairline Mirage Mk11 29. Lowering Cockpit Roof

Postby Nightwalker_uk » Thu Feb 18, 2016 12:50 pm

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and fairly new to boating. I bought a Mirage and keep it on the River Great Ouse.

There are a few bridges where I would struggle to get my boat under them. I am thinking of having the cockpit roof removed and a new canopy made. Has anyone else already done this and if so, what is the air draught after the work has been done?

I've had a quote for the work of around £4K, any ideas?

Re: Fairline Mirage Mk11 29. Lowering Cockpit Roof - Update

Postby Nightwalker_uk » Sun Sep 25, 2016 9:46 am

Just thought I would give an update on the progress of my project.

After a couple of false starts and many hours searching the internet, I found a great guy to make new windscreens for my Mirage. The hardtop and been removed and the news lower screens have been fitted.

I have to say that the look of the boat is really good. The result is that I have taken just over 12" off the airdraught. (The whole point of the project)

The new canopy has been patterned and should be ready by the end of the week.

The cost has been quite high but I reckon worth every penny as the boat will now go under with a comfortable margin, all the bridges on the River Great Ouse.

I've put the old canopy up for sale in case anyone is interested. It would make a good winter cover.

Cheers guys

We are in the process of buying a Mirage 29 and will remain on the Great Ouse around St Ives - Earith area so are interested to see how you got on.

Having had a Narrow boat on the Great Ouse for the last 2 -3 years we have been able to go just about anywhere so suddenly being limited is a bit of a pain.

If the air draft advertised of 2.54M is correct then we wont be able to get any further upstream than Offord. That all dependant on river levels, couple of Mirage's got stuck at St Ives in the summer.

Might see you on the river next season.
