Re: Algae in fuel tanks

I found it necessary to remove the tank and have it professionally cleaned. Goop gets stuck not only on the bottom of the tank but also on the baffles. No amount of fuel polishing and filtering will get this off because it is like a slime on the inside of the tank. If you can get to your your tank a...

Re: Inside canopy

I presume this is a canvas canopy. Mould on the inside is very common and is mostly caused by condensation. I recommend you obtain a good quality canvas cleaner (Starbrite ?) or mould remover and follow product instructions. You may need to removed the canopy completely and give it a gentle scrub an...

Re: The cost of marine wiring.

I think this restrictive practice is something that all marinas try to maintain. In reality I think you are entitled to decide to whom you will entrust your boat and the marina ought to respect that, in which case they may wish to charge you some kind of admin fee for allowing this. Alternatively yo...

Re: 82,mirage,engine swap

I would recommend you talk to marine engineer Lyndon Evans 07795 218704. He has a workshop and compound at Penton Hook and is often at Bray doing work for the many customers he has there.

I use Volvo coolant and leave it in all year. Fresh water in engines is not ideal as it contains no inhibitors to reduce corrosion.

Cleaning fuel tanks is really hard as they are fitted with baffles and even if you have inspection access you cant usually get behind the baffles to clean them. Petrol tanks on boats are inclined to develop some unpleasant 'waxy' deposit over the years unless the fuel is constantly being used and re...

I would say that 15 x 17 props were those fitted to original petrol engines and you wont get much out of one of those until you get 5,000 rpm. A diesel engine of this power would swing a 16 x 21 without any problem and this would deliver much more thrust. you might even try 16 x 23 (the largest that...

Here's an afterthought ... if you don't need the cruising range have the stainless steel tank converted into part fuel - part black water. Same size, and same total weight. You could do an 80/20 split ..... a 20 gall holding talk would last two people .. what 4 days .... ? Although I am not sure abo...

Understood. I'd be very surprised if you can get one of those off the shelf. But do try Fairline - you may be lucky, otherwise I would approach a stainless steel fabricator and discuss your needs. You will of course need to be able to tell them exactly what you want (perhaps photos and measurements ...

I installed a 20 gallon Tek Tank in the starboard engine bay 'cheek', that is - adjacent to the starboard engine. I cant actually remember cost but I don't believe it was excessive. Bit of white pipe from ASAP Supplies and a few fittings from Lee Sanitation. The main cost was the tank. Evacuation of...

I shouldnt worry too much about the make of the existing charger - so long as it is working well!! I have no experience of generators, other than the noise of them running can be a bit of a nuisance to other boaters ........ I would think just about any genny would run your fridge and charger ... bu...

I suggest that a check be made with BSS people at Watford before anyone fits a petrol heater to a boat that will require BSS approval for inland waterways.
