Re: hello

I had a holiday that was repowered with a lancing marine ford transit engine. The engine was fine (although noisy) but the 270 leg kept falling to bits. It was a fast boat, but needed a lot of revs to get it on the plane. 140-150hp is the minimum, I always thought it would have cruised nicely with 2...

Re: fairline 40 revamp

Unless you do the work yourself, I don't think you'll get the money back that you spend on a freshen-up. I'd be inclined to give it a good clean and get it listed as is, accepting that it's not going to make as much as a well looked after example. Could be worth having a chat with some brokers and g...

Re: Fairline Turbo 36 restoration

Looking very nice!
Our helm seat certainly needs sorting out now, it broke off coming into Dover in a force 8.
Carried out a strong, but untidy repair and currently in Holland but it will need replacing when we get back.
Hope you're enjoying the weather!

Re: volvo outdrives

Volvo specify ordinary engine oil (15-40, possibly?) But when I had one rebuilt, the engineering company used, and recommended, EP90.

Re: Tamd41 overheating. Heat exchanger

Hi, sorry but as the heat exchanger is one unit sealed at one end, don’t you simply fill it with the cleaner and leave to soak? Not sure what the cut fender will do? I have TAMD41B and this is how I did mine. For the oil cooler, yes it can be this done way. Regards, Lee That does sound a lot easier...

Re: Tamd41 overheating. Heat exchanger

Most people will leave it overnight, I just do it until it stops fizzing and looks clean which can take a few hours.

Re: Steering Wheel Upgrade

Have a look at Timage http://timage.eu/marine/153-UK-boat-steering-wheels
I bought a couple of their budget ones after a recommendation from here, very happy with them!

Re: Tamd41 overheating. Heat exchanger

Cut the top off an old fender to make a tall, narrow bucket and use this to soak it in brick cleaner.

Re: volvo 280 outdrive lift issue

Well done, really glad you found it!
Sorry I couldn't have been of more assistance, I just could not remember how it was done other than turning a nut and it being an easy job.

Re: Fairline Turbo 36 restoration

I have to say that this thread is officially my favourite thing on the internet, ever!
Nicely done sir, keep the pictures flowing! And doesn't the aft deck look odd without the rails and dodgers!

Re: volvo 280 outdrive lift issue

Really sorry, I just cannot remember. I know it was simple, and easy to get to so it can only have been on the lift mechanism itself. Just had a quick google to refresh my memory and can't find anything about a lift clutch, they all seem to have a cut-out switch to stop the motor when the drive is f...

Re: volvo 280 outdrive lift issue

My old 270 used to do that. Simply had to tighten the clutch slightly on the lifting motor to solve it.
I've no idea if the 280 is the same though, I thought it used rams but I'm probably wrong.
