Re: Window replacement - Targa 27

Just a thought (as I dont know your boat)
If your window is an aluminium frame with a pvc 'herzim' strip covering self tapping screws, then my method may be useful, But if you have another sort of arrangement then I suspect my experiences will be irrelevant.

Re: Window replacement - Targa 27

I have a little experience with windows on my Fairline Mirage. But not replacement. I had leaks to deal with and was able to re-use everything. Acrylic 'glass' and welded aluminium frames. I was quoted a little under £800 for re-sealing (not including remove & refit !) and I did my own (100% suc...

Re: Fire extinguishers for Targa 29 engine bay

I believe that it is now commonly held that two extinguishers are not appropriate, This is because one can fire and not put out the fire, then the second could do the same and both could fail to put out the fire. Thus I believe that a single extinguishers capable of dealing with the cubic capacity o...

Re: Help needed on 1979 Faitline Mirage

ah yes .. there is a challenge here as, in principle you have to have master power switches on and everything turned on (including ignition) to see what is working and what is not. Then you discover as you turn off ignition etc what is connected to what. Fuel gauge works with one ignition. steering ...

Re: Help needed on 1979 Faitline Mirage

If you mean Brentford Cruising Club you might like to speak to one of the members who has a Mirage called ' Lazy 2 '. A 1979 Mirage is a Mark 1 version with small differences to the Mark 2 (which is what I own). It is not unusual to find that previous owners have made changes so you might need to ex...

Re: volvo outdrives

Same oil as used by your engines is what Volvo state. I think EP90 is far too thick.

Re: volvo 280 outdrive lift issue

The lift is achieved by a small electric motor inside the boat held on by 2 small bolts. Check that these are tight. Motor shaft has a square shaft that engages with the lift worm drive. It is usually quite noisy. Check that the leg is earthed well. This is usually a bond between the outdrive and th...

Re: Control Lever

It can be the case that, on certain rivers, you can experience an accumulation of limescale around the exposed underwater cable end which will have an effect on smooth operation - but usually this will clear after several movements. If you satisfy yourself that the control lever is fine, and well lu...

Re: Fairline Mirage 29

Congratulations on your purchase. !980 that means a Mark 1 Mirage. As far as I am aware an original owners manual is about as rare as hens teeth. Your engine and transmission set up (with Volvo Penta outdrive) was branded Volvo Penta AQ120 (AQ=Aquamatic). I believe the same engine was used for the A...

Re: Full Tanks For Winter?

Usual wisdom is
Petrol - empty ('old' petrol can degrade and block carburettors )
Diesel - full (to expel air and to minimise condensation which can help to minimise occurrence of
diesel bug)

Re: servicing outdrives

On the River Thames, for example, I would allow £2,000 to include lift out and re-launch, service both drives with genuine Volvo parts assuming that to be new bellows and oil. If there are seals to be replaced then that would be extra. I mention Thames as its prob one of the most expensive areas for...

Re: Fuel filter for Fairline Holiday

you will get a metal bowl from ASAP Supplies, but don't forget that you will also need a metal bung. A plastic screw bung will get you a BSS fail. There is a Racor fuel filter with sea thru bowl which does comply with BSS, it has a large pudding bowl shield and gives that visibility which is, as you...
